About me

Hi everyone, I’m Hai Ling!

I share easy Asian recipes made for busy days—comforting, flavourful dishes that help you destress after work. I truly believe good food makes everything better, and I can’t live without it—especially Chinese sweet and sour pork, my all-time favourite.

My food journey

Born and raised in Penang, Malaysia , food has always been a huge part of my life. Growing up surrounded by incredible hawker food and home-cooked meals, I started experimenting in the kitchen at just 10 years old.

Everything changed when I went overseas for university. When Covid shut down eating out, I found myself craving familiar home flavours more than ever. That’s when I truly got serious about cooking—recreating the Asian dishes I grew up with, one recipe at a time.

Cooking through corporate hustle

I’m an accounting graduate who survived audit life and now works in data analytics. Corporate life can be intense, but no matter how busy my schedule gets, cooking is my way to unwind, recharge, and save money.

Cooking is my biggest form of stress relief. I mainly focus on easy Chinese and Asian home-style recipes—the dishes I know best—though I do enjoy the occasional baking session (lockdown habits die hard!).

Fun Fact

Back in high school, I ran a mini food hustle, selling fried udon, roti bakar, and spaghetti bolognese to my classmates. Who knew it would lead to HL’s Kitchen one day?

I still love exploring new foods and flavours—because there’s always something new to learn in the kitchen.

Welcome to HL’s Kitchen !

If you’re looking for simple Asian recipes, comfort food, or inspiration to cook even on your busiest days, you’re in the right place 🤍
